Nomad Shelter Yurt Insulation

Nomad Shelter offers 2 weights of insulation. The light insulation is a layer of polyester (Ivory, with fire retardant) lining added to reflectex foil backed bubble wrap insulation. This insulation is good if you are only using the yurt in the spring, fall and summer months in Alaska.

If the season extends to winter we manufactured our heavier insulation, which adds a layer of 5/8ths inch hollow fiber batting and a backing of Tyvek building wrap to the light liner components. The reflectex is mainly a reflective insulation. Adding the batting and the extra layer of wrap adds R-value or heat retention capacity. We estimate our insulation at between R15- 20. This is a very durable liner and moves well. It will not break down with repeated set-ups.

If you do not plan to move the yurt frequently another alternative for heavy weather areas is to add a 1-inch layer of rigid foam insulation on top of either the light or heavy insulation to add R-value. The 1-inch foam will bend and can be taped together to cover the yurt between the liner (either heavy or light) and the cover. We recommend having someone with manufactured experience to help in fitting the foam layer on the yurt. It can be tricky!

Free floor plans are available on all sizes and the yurt comes with a set-up manual and phone consultation and support for set-ups.
