Hello yurt fans! I hope your summer season is filled with fun and abundance. Here at Nomad Shelter, we have been rocking a full schedule since February! Spring has gone by so quickly with all the infrastructure projects and a full production calendar. We’ve gotten yurts out to Seward, Anchorage, Moose Pass, Nome, and other Alaskan destinations. Yurts are also shipping to the Lower 48 for New York, North Carolina, and Tennessee among others. Our crew of nine experienced Homer yurt makers are staying busy this summer! |
There is still space for your new orders to be delivered in September and October. Alex has her pencil sharpened and is ready to add in your project, so call or text her at 907-299-3221 to get on the schedule. Fall time is a great season to get a new yurt build completed! If you need something sooner, we also have the following special offers that will be ready to go soon. |
Available Soon: Two 24 ft diameter yurts with heavy insulation packages.
A customer had a change of plans in the middle of this build, so Alex is looking for buyers for these yurts to help accommodate their new plans and still get these two 24’s to a good home. They have full winter insulation packages, and if ordered over the next couple weeks, the colors can still be chosen. We can also modify the wall with a new custom door and window layout. Contact Alex, you can be in these yurts in August.
Available in October: 50 ft yurt with heavy insulation and preassembled floor.
We also have a 50 ft yurt with a premade floor that will be ready to go at the end of September, but the current buyers want to sell as their plans have changed. We are putting this floor and yurt up here on site and working in it for the remainder of the season doing vinyl welding. It can be available and ready to load out to a new home at the beginning of October. The floor is all precut with portable foundation blocks and ready to reassemble along with the yurt. If you commit to the purchase now, we can still make the walls with your custom window and door placements. Follow us on Instagram for pictures as this yurt gets finished.

In other news, we are currently integrating our new Leister Vinyl Welder! This new machine will enable us to change our Duro-last cover design from having sewn on eves to having welded eves. This change is going to eliminate all thread from an integral seam of the top cover that has been susceptible to weathering in climates with high heat and moisture, even with our triple sewn design. This tougher seam will open up our ability to confidently start sending yurts to Hawaii and other tropical climates! We are currently making prototypes, and the first 14 ft yurt will be available for delivery next month.
We will be calling our current customers soon with pictures and an offer to upgrade this join from sewn to welded if they like the change. The sewing machines have done us well for many years, but we’re excited for a tooling change that will add years of durability to what are already the toughest yurts around. Check our social media for the rollout pictures, we’d love to hear your feedback!

The 60 ft diameter yurt workshop is still keeping Lee busy as he leads the design on this one-of-a-kind structure. Sunny days you will find him up on top of the yurt hand welding the cover in place. The wood shop has already moved in, and now all of our doors, rings, skylights, and fabric cutting is happening in this inspiring new space. Keep following our social media for videos and photos of the 60 ft completion process, there is no other yurt like it in the world! This unprecedented yurt is Lee’s magnum opus- a beautiful culmination of our 32 year journey with Nomad Shelter Alaskan Yurts. We are now looking to hand off the company to the perfect buyer who is ready to usher in a new chapter of Nomad Shelter with fresh energy and ideas, building on the foundation of design and production processes that we have created. As we continue our search, you can rest assured that Lee and I are holding out for a producer that will love and value this yurt making engine as much as we do. We will be choosing carefully, and the transition will not be hurried. The business is well poised for expansion and has a solid reputation built through 32 years of quality manufacturing and care for our customers and community. Give me a call at 907-299-3342 for the details if you are interested. |
So that’s the news! I hope you all are having a wonderful summer!
Peace,
~ Jess ~
